20th Street Project Recognized with Best Planning Practice Award

At the American Planning Association (APA) – St. Louis Metro Section (APA SLMS) Winter Workshop held on December 12, 2023, the 20th Street Mobility Improvements Project won the 2023 Outstanding Award for Best Planning Practice. The project will reconstruct 1.6 miles of 20th Street between Market Street and St. Louis Avenue and will consist of adding a separated bicycle path. This project will connect to the Brickline Greenway. 20th Street will be put out for bid in early 2024 with construction beginning mid-2024.

The APA SLMS jury said this about the project:

“The plan for 20th Street Mobility Improvements included a robust public involvement process focused on increasing safety and mobility for all users, maintaining deteriorating infrastructure, increasing community connections and connecting to the Brickline Greenway. The plan moved beyond the typical involvement process by using field demonstrations to accurately convey impacts to the public.”

Congratulations to the 20th Street project team, led by CMT Project Manager, Jay Rakers. Other project partners include:

  • Scott Ogilvie, Transportation Policy Planner • Planning and Urban Design Agency

  • John Kohler, Planning and Programming Manager • Board of Public Service • City of St. Louis

  • Rob Orr, SVP, Real Estate Development • St. Louis Development Corporation
